Ranking The States By Life Expectancy

The State Of Life

In 2020, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that the average American could expect to live to 77 years old. Women were leading the charge at 79.9 years, while men trailed slightly behind at 76.2.

But national averages only tell part of the story. What happens when you zoom in on each state? Which corners of the country are quietly stacking the most birthday candles—and how does the battle of the sexes shake out from coast to coast? Let’s dig into the numbers.

What Travelers Mean By A Balcony

My cruise promised a balcony, but ours faces an interior promenade. Is that the same experience?

For many cruise travelers, the word balcony brings up one very specific image. You picture a private outdoor space with open sea views, fresh air, and the sound of waves instead of hallway chatter. My friend brought expensive wine to our rental and expects us all to split the cost. Do we owe her?

You arrive at the rental, bags hit the floor, and someone pulls out a pricey bottle of wine like they are starring in a holiday commercial. Then comes the twist. After everyone has had a glass, your friend says the group should split the cost.

My airline sold me extra legroom beside a broken restroom. Can I ask for my upgrade fee back?

Paying extra for more legroom is supposed to make a flight feel a little less cramped. But if that prized seat comes with a broken restroom, a line of waiting passengers, or nonstop odor, the upgrade can feel like a bait and switch. The good news is that you may have a path to ask for some or all of that fee back.
