Destination Of The Day: Bali

Bali is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, but don’t let that stop you from visiting this beautiful Indonesian island. If you are looking to experience the magic of Bali without being completely overrun by a swarm of other travelers, check out these five destinations.

Gunung Kawi Temple

Built in the 11th century, this ancient Hindu temple is steeped in myth and legend. One such legend is that of the fearsome warrior, Kebo Iwa, and it is believed that he used his fingernails to carve the extravagant reliefs in the temple. You can decide the truth of the myth for yourself if you make the trek down to this mysterious site. If you’re looking to avoid the crowd and take in the serenity of the temple, go in the morning when it’s a lot quieter.

Nyang Nyang Beach

Nyang Nyang Beach can be hard to find but that works to its benefit and keeps the area relatively tourist-free. Without the din from crowds of travelers, you can fully enjoy the tranquil white sands and lush greenery of the nearby cliffs. And, with more privacy than other attractions in Bali, it’s the perfect place to take a refreshing dip in the ocean or work on your tan with some peaceful sunbathing.

Sukawati Art Market

The Ubud Market is a popular tourist destination in Bali, but few people know that the equally impressive Sukawati Art Market is nearby. The Sukawati Art Market is less inundated with travelers, and a great place to try your hand at haggling. You can find all manner of homemade goods and artwork, including wooden sculptures, vibrant clothes and accessories, and delectable local treats.

Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall

You’ll have to embark on a bit of a journey to reach the Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall, but it’s well worth it to avoid swarms of tourists. Once you’ve completed the 90-minute drive from Ubud and 20-minute hike through banana trees, you’ll finally reach a magnificent set of four waterfalls. The largest waterfall is the most enchanting and features a rock amphitheatre in amongst the mist and gentle streams that flow into a shallow basin. The beauty of the Banyu Wana Amertha Waterfall has gained more recognition over the past few years, but it still has far less crowds than many of Bali’s other tourist attractions.

Mount Batur

Mount Batur is an incredible sight to behold. This active volcano is home to the largest crater lake in Bali and is surrounded by some of the island’s most breathtaking landscape. It’s a great place for hiking and cycling and there are many lovely little villages for you to explore. If you are willing to wake up early and make the two-hour trek to the mountain’s summit, then you’ll be treated to an unforgettable sunrise as the morning light flows over the misty countryside.
